A Great Start

It's hard to believe September is almost over! We have been working hard in elementary music and choir.  The students have been exploring how to keep a steady beat with their voices, on their bodies and with instruments. We have been practicing playing the steady beat on rhythm instruments; it has been fun to play our new classroom drums! The kids have even been experimenting with quarter note and eighth note rhythm patterns and are starting to be able to play a pattern while another one is already going on.

It has been a great start to our year and I am proud of all the kids have learned already.  We look forward to sharing some of this with you at our concert on November 13. Stay tuned for more details!

We're off and running with 5th grade CADET BAND for 2012-2013. We've got a bigger and more balanced group than ever this fall. I'm so excited about their potential. This morning (our FIRST REHEARSAL EVER) we even managed to play a 'song'! Ask your student to demonstrate this weekend. And parents, please be sure to encourage the one sure fire way to success--PRACTICING AT HOME!  Here's the group from this morning.
