After a fantastic job by the 5-8 students last night, I can only offer a big THANKS to y'all.  People who were sick, we missed you!  Those who were there, thanks for focusing, performing, sharing, and communicating the message of Christmas.  I'll try and post some photos here soon. MERRY CHRISTMAS, EVERYONE!  Enjoy your vacation. We've got great things planned for 2013!

OH, and 1 more thing--I'm getting a lot of students coming to me with instruments that are NOT playing well. Please get them checked out NOW instead of during concert week!
Insider information about the Christmas concert for students and families:

1.  It's moved to Thursday, Dec. 20 at 7 p.m.  6:45 is CALL TIME for all performers.

2.  Students will not wear ZCS uniforms. Instead, anything Christmassy, including funny shoes, ugly sweaters, anything red and green, t-shirts, hats, decorations, etc. Keep it modest and make sure you and those around can still perform to their best.

3.  Program Order:
         5/6 Band
         7/8 Choir  (with 5-8 finale)
         offering
         ZCSingers (8th vocal ensemble)
         5/6 Choir
         7/8 Band

4. We're doing a LOT of great music. MANY students need to practice at home on this music!

A BIG reminder to everyone that many things have changed about our upcoming CHRISTMAS FESTIVAL concert.  Because of major schedule conflicts, the date has been moved to Thursday, December 20. The time is still 7 p.m., and the location is still the ZCS gym.  We have also shifted around some of the class groups, and so now the Dec. 20 concert will involve all 5th through 8th choir and band members.  I would appreciate your understanding and flexibility in trying to make sure your students can all participate in one of the most fun evenings of the year.

Concert News

Elementary Choir Concert Tonight!

All the first-fifth graders need to meet at Community Reformed Church by 6:50 tonight for our 7:00 concert.  Please have the students wear dress pants (no jeans) and a solid colored shirt.  Drop off your students by their teachers in the gym next to the sanctuary at church.

Join us to see what the ZCS kids have been doing in music and choir class this year and also to worship the Creator of music.  It should be a fun evening!

Dear parents of music students:

I was forwarded some information about TRIP at Meyer Music you may like to know. Were you aware that families who rent instruments or have any bills to pay at Meyer Music can use VIP TRIP to make those payments?  Parents who use TRIP can save 3.5% and have it applied to their tuition. That sounds like a win-win to me. Thought you'd like to know!

The 5th-8th grade bands and the 6th-8th grade choirs did a nice job at the concert this past Tuesday. Thanks for all of you who came out to support them!

A Great Start

It's hard to believe September is almost over! We have been working hard in elementary music and choir.  The students have been exploring how to keep a steady beat with their voices, on their bodies and with instruments. We have been practicing playing the steady beat on rhythm instruments; it has been fun to play our new classroom drums! The kids have even been experimenting with quarter note and eighth note rhythm patterns and are starting to be able to play a pattern while another one is already going on.

It has been a great start to our year and I am proud of all the kids have learned already.  We look forward to sharing some of this with you at our concert on November 13. Stay tuned for more details!

We're off and running with 5th grade CADET BAND for 2012-2013. We've got a bigger and more balanced group than ever this fall. I'm so excited about their potential. This morning (our FIRST REHEARSAL EVER) we even managed to play a 'song'! Ask your student to demonstrate this weekend. And parents, please be sure to encourage the one sure fire way to success--PRACTICING AT HOME!  Here's the group from this morning.

We're back!  After a slow second semester of blogging last year, we've 'ironed out' some web site issues, and the ZCS music teachers are more committed than ever to use our ZCS music blog for helpful and fun updates. You'll want to mark this web address and visit often to see info, pictures, video, and comments about all the great things happening in ZCS music! Maybe I'll even share some of my famous corny music jokes. Thanks for being supportive as we strive to bring glory to the Creator by doing some creating of our own!

Q:  What did the music teacher say to his students on the first day of music history class?
A:  Welcome Bach!
